Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum investment requirement?

We do not have any minimum investment requirement.  Instead, we work with you to determine if we can bring value to your financial situation.  If the answer is yes, we will gladly work with you and will do so for the long-term.

Do you operate under the fiduciary or suitability standard?

The fiduciary standard applies to us as a registered investment advisor under the Investment Advisor Act of 1940.  Simply put, it states that we must put our clients' best interest ahead of our own.  To learn more about this standard and how it contrasts with the suitability standard applicable to traditional broker/dealers, please click here.

What types of investments do you utilize?

Our investment models typically use a combination of mutual funds, ETFs, and money market funds.  However, we keep the entire universe of investment vehicles on our radar and at our disposal so that we can respond most effectively to market conditions and your personalized needs.

What does your typical client look like?

There really is no “typical,” aside from the common denominators of being willing to take intelligent risk and desiring to plan for their financial future with the expert advice of a trusted advisor.  As such, our clients come from a variety of backgrounds, and have accumulated (or are accumulating) wealth through a variety of sources.  We have clients who are small business owners, technology executives, teachers, doctors, accountants, retirees, and more.  The real question to ask is whether we can bring value to your financial situation, and we invite you to speak with us to explore the answer to this question.

Who do you work with on the essential legal, tax, and philanthropic aspects of my financial picture?

We are happy to work alongside your current advisors and/or refer you to anyone from within our network of experienced and trusted attorneys, accountants, merger & acquisition professionals, and philanthropic advisors.  Over the years, we have developed relationships with some of the best in the region that we often bring into the picture to deliver the most comprehensive and enjoyable experience possible.

Do you work with small businesses?

YES!  We love working alongside businesses and non-profits of any size, whether publicly or privately held, to provide a suite of services including cash management, 401k/403b plans, 10b5-1 plans, and more.  We also love working with employers on a personal level, as they consider how their business fits into their overall financial picture.  Contact us today to learn more about how we can help with these specialized functions, and thus allow you as a business owner to focus more on the important task of growing your business!

Who do you use as a custodian for assets under management?

We have set ourselves up as a multi-custodial firm, primarily utilizing Fidelity and Schwab. We use an account custodian to provide an additional layer of security and transparency for your assets. All reporting is generated by the custodian. Our job is to serve as the advisor to these assets, typically on a discretionary basis. To learn more about Fidelity and the nature of the custodial relationship between MPCA and Fidelity, please take a look at the following documents:

I don’t live in Washington.  Can I still invest with you?

YES!  We are capable of handling clients from all over the USA, and even have clients internationally.  Regardless of your location, we will still engage with you personally to ensure you remain an active part of your financial planning picture and remain fully apprised of the performance of your investment portfolio.  Please note that we may not transact business in states where we not appropriately registered, excluded or exempted from registration. Individualized responses to persons that involve either the affecting of transactions in securities, or the rendering of personalized investment advice for compensation, will not be made without registration or exemption.
